The Basics
We use IceReg to register and track progress of our skaters. IceReg registers your child with the Iqaluit Speed Skating Club, the Nunavut Speed Skating Association, and Speed Skating Canada. This is necessary for our insurance and to allow your child to participate in future events and competitions.
Speed skating requires crash mats around the edge of the rink. We need and expect parents and skaters to help either put them out or put them away at each practise. It only takes 10-15 minutes if everyone helps!
Our First & Fast Strides program is for younger children who can already skate a bit. They don’t have to be able to skate well, but if they cannot skate at all, we recommend first joining the Ookpik Skate program at the Iqaluit Skating Club for a season.

Registration
1) Review and choose your program
Review our programs and fees, schedule, safety rules, and club rules, then select the appropriate program for your child. If you have any questions, please ask before registering! Some of the fees are paid to other organizations and are non-refundable
2) Register with IceReg
- Create or sign into a parent/guardian account
When you first create an IceReg account, it is your account, not your child’s. Enter your own information. Parents’ accounts can be used to register multiple children. - Register your child
*** If another parent/guardian has previously registered your child, do not proceed! We need to link their IceReg ID to your account. Get in touch with us. ***
After your parent/guardian account has been created, you’ll have the option to “register someone else” – this is where you enter your child’s information to register them.
Select the program and payment option
Each program has the choice of a single payment or three payments. - Register as a Club Athlete
When asked to select the Athlete Membership Options, choose Club Athlete. - Sign all waivers
Each organization (Iqaluit, Nunavut, and Speed Skating Canada) sets its own rules for registration, so you may be asked to enter some information more than once and to sign multiple agreements. These are all necessary for our insurance and to allow your child to participate in events other than the lessons. - Pay the membership fees
3) Join our WhatsApp group
We make announcements for schedule changes, cancellations, and special events on our WhatsApp group. While we also post on Facebook and other social media, this is the platform where we only post announcements. Please join!
After the lessons start, you may also be invited to join a group managed by your child’s program coach. Please join that as well – it’ll be where the coach communicates information specific to your child’s group.
4) Bring your skater to equipment fitting
We’ll announce an equipment fitting and pick-up date on WhatsApp. Bring your child to get fitted for skates and other equipment.
